Xander Schauffele will be in more than one tournament.
Schauffele pulled out of this week’s American Express in La Quinta, Calif., with his manager citing a “medical reason.” Now Schauffele will miss his first Farmers Insurance Open since debuting at Torrey Pines in 2016 as a member of the Korn Ferry Tour.
He, too, will not be part of New York Golf Club’s second TGL tournament on Tuesday. Schauffele participated in the league opener two weeks ago, but will hand the playing responsibilities to teammates Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young.
The world number two opened the new year with the T-30 on display at The Sentry in Kapalua.
Schauffele’s absence coincides with the absence of world number one Scottie Scheffler due to an injury to his right hand, specifically a puncture wound from broken glass, sustained while preparing Christmas dinner. He was originally supposed to return to La Quinta, though that didn’t happen.
The next event on the PGA Tour schedule is Jan. 30-Feb. 2 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
