Recently, several English politicians have urged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to ban their match against Afghanistan. Because of the Taliban’s treatment of women, this move could serve as a model for other countries. South Africa’s sports minister has banned the match against Afghanistan, arguing that the Taliban regime has similar threats to women’s rights.
Amid the boycott calls, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the ICC Champions Trophy selection meeting could be held on January 19.

As per ICC rules, all teams were supposed to submit their provisional squads by 11:59 PM on January 12. However, the BCCI may request an extension. Normally, teams are required to notify their squads one month before the tournament, but this time the ICC has extended the deadline to five weeks. The teams will still have the flexibility to make changes to their team later if necessary.
