She added: “Some of the statements were unjustified and unacceptable, and I was not going to sit there and accept them.” “So, yes, I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low your status is or where you come from, there’s no need to compromise or belittle others.”
At the time, Lucy also noted that she and Bill have been on good terms ever since – in a new interview with The Guardianthe legendary actress went into more detail about why she defended herself.
“I didn’t really think about it,” she said. “I would do it in any situation.”
“I think that when I feel like something is not right, I will protect myself. It’s an instinctive thing to do if I feel like there’s an injustice, and I always feel that way.”
If she was the type to do that, Lucy continued to guess no If she had responded to such treatment, she would have faced a “much easier road” in the entertainment industry in general.
“But because I wasn’t that person before, we had to find a way. There was never an easy path, for me and for (the other Asian American actors) — I really think it’s a team effort. I’ll never take the credit.”
