Darlington, SC – In front of the Cup playoffs opened at Darlington Raceway on USA Network on Sunday night, the 16 drivers fighting for a championship were asked this week to judge their strengths and weaknesses.
This is what they said (managers are listed in numerical order):
1 – Ross Chastain
“I will start with weakness because it is the easiest one. It’s just, are we going to be fast? Are we going to roll off the truck for practice at Darlington, and will we be able to stay quickly on the cloth10 of the run, round 20, round round and can transfer it to qualify for one shot, and then back to the race? “It’s hard to determine one force because I feel like we have a lot of strengths. Speed is always one, surely. We were just a lot through the summer. I think we saw a lot of different things and we are prepared for almost everything. I think we look forward to the challenge of the next 10 and hopefully we can perform at a high level.
‘(Weakness) I think I’m still the shorter, flattering cuts, so seeing Gateway and New Hampshire in the playoffs is not something I was excited about. But I think we made our package better on the style of the track. You know, I look at Iowa – we were fast and Bowman was fast. Second, and I think I was in sixth place.
9 – Chase Elliott
“I think the experience … is a great power because you only get different situations during the last 10 (races). You know, the challenges for us were mainly on Saturdays, more than they were on Sundays. I was very open about it, but yes, we should have better Saturdays to better set us for success. ‘

11 – Denny Hamlin
“Our strengths are just conventional oval. Anything that turns left is going to be our strength. We are in the unique position, there are honestly about four or five of us who are the fastest cars every week, and there are others, right? It’s just, do you have an advantage through your playoffs and what is not going on yet?
‘The challenge will of course be Talladega. I don’t think I’ve avoided a superpeedway wreck about ten years – or it feels like it. And what happens to the Roval, right? There are so many different strategies and things that can happen. In what position are you before you get there?
12 – Ryan Blaney
“One thing I was very happy about this year, as opposed to last year or the year before, when it took us a little while to get started, early in the year and through early summer, our pace just really wasn’t where it was, and it was with a few car changes and stuff. Better on our execution and things like that.
Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott and Bubba Wallace are one of a group of play-offs that started chasing full time between 2016-2022, which has an impact on the sport.
19 – Chase Briscoe
“For us, our power is our speed. There really is not a single style of racetrack where we have not yet been one of the faster cars in general. I think for us, you know that our pit staff were really good, we just have a few blow -up pit stops and just mistakes. Think everything that is just put together, whether it’s a well. Playoffs are just to make sure you export and do not make these mistakes that you get out of the day.
‘If we can do this for ten weeks, from a velocity point of view. We need to have a lot of speed that you know, run before and get points. It would be an issue not to shoot ourselves in the foot, and if we can do it, I feel like we have a good shot. “
20 – Christopher Bell
“Well, I would say our biggest power is roadway racing, but there’s a man named Shane of Gisbergen who keeps taking it away. Road lanes were very good, so I’m optimistic about the Roval, and then it’s natural, short tracks, flat tracks – Phoenix, Loudon, Gateway – that style racing, running, Phoenix – I think the Roval and the gate, gate is our bread and butter.
‘Interim – we were close and could work well, but we just seem to be a little going on, but … it can change in any week, and we can go out and win any of the race. Weakness is certainly Talladega – even if Talladega is a force, you are not a good finish.
21 – Josh Berry
‘I feel as if our strengths that are going on this agreement are basically every oval track. I look at different races throughout the season, where we may not have found the finishes we earned, or the little things here or there that held it back, so I generally think that we did not have quickly in many of these places, and that it will be important if we will come to this play -off game and just do the ravan, but to make the end. We have to get there before we worry about it. “
22 – Joey Logano
“Our greatest power is to be those … that 1-mile, flat tracks. This is our steering house. Our greatest weakness is probably mile-and-a-half. With that, I think we can win with them, I just think it’s a kind of our hardest point or biggest obstacle to try to jump. “
23 – Bubba Wallace
“The greatest power – I think mentality is my greatest power. You probably won’t give me that trait a few years ago. I feel good where I am. I feel confident where I am. My weakness – I think the heat of the moment -scenarios. I think it goes with mentality too – how do you react to it. We will go with it. ‘

24 – William Byron
“I think our power is just that we are quickly with all the different tracks. I really don’t see a cut that we have a big deficit. So I think at the same time, you never know what everyone is going to bring and how fast they will be. We just have to keep working. We can continue to get better, but it is our power.
“And then I think the area we can improve is … I don’t know. There is no great brilliant area. We can always be on the pit road faster. We can always be faster, have a better balanced car. But I think the underlying theme of the play -offs is that you have to get to the round of 8, and then your peak has to start.
45 – Tyler Reddick
“Our speed is our power. What our weakness was the execution. We did not get the results on the days where we were so fast. Whether it is DNF or damaged and laps closed, it seems you look this year when we were fast, and we found a way of not being at the end of the round. “
