The labor department says its position on the proposed legislated across-the-board wage hike for minimum wage earners remains the same: they will enforce the law should Congress pass it
MANILA, Philippines – Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, on the sidelines of the 2025 Post-SONA Discussions, responded to labor groups that were disappointed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. did not include the legislated wage hike proposals in his 4th State of the Nation Address, saying that the current administration is not blocking the bills.
Laguesma reiterated their position on the bills ever since debates started in the 19th Congress, saying the labor department would provide technical inputs and enforce the law should it be passed. Marcos still recognized workers’ contributions in the SONA, the secretary said.
Several lawmakers have refiled the bill in the 20th Congress.
Laguesma also discussed the administration’s efforts to provide more quality jobs and its response to the possible effects of US tariffs. – Rappler.com
