Oakmont, PA. – Even in the victory, Viktor Hovland felt embarrassing. That was in March, At the Championship of VALSPAROne of the most demanding weeks on the PGA tourist schedule, when Hovland encouraged the swinging in progress, opened several clutches late and – somehow – went to the first win in 19 months.
“He’s still not great,” he said for the momentum after that, and that was while he was sitting next to the trophy. Of course, it is the same peaceful player who once said that his cutting was “Sisa”, after victory – and thought about withdrawal before larger championships and encountered countless marginal hole in search of marginal improvement. But this time he was imperceptible that this was good – it’s just not good enough.
“Repeating questions,” he said the winning day was three months ago, “they are still the same there.”
Hovland is accused of being too hard for himself, even if, he, he, he is only realistic. Intensely self-aware. Reasons that have been a misconception regarding his prospects any way to pass through his career; Just face questions, head, instead of just hoping for the best.
Hovland played a sparingly this season – Valspar is his only tour of the Start this season that was not in a smaller or signature event – and it is intentional. He would rather try to accurately adjust the momentum at home, in the range, but testing themselves in tournament conditions if he knows he is not ready.
So, given the Hovdan’s harsh self-criticism in the last two years, it is worth listening to him now. He is encouraged. Convinced, even hard work in private, with Grant Wite, is now ready for public spending.
“I still haven’t been too sure of your ball of my ball, but last week we’ve seen really good progress, and I’ve been very happy with some of the shots I hit the practice,” Super is excited to take it with me on the tournament. “
Hovland spoke on Friday after posting 2-Mank 68, which positioned him as one of only two players who are in line with the late beginners here on American open. On 1-below 139, Hovland was two shots with Sam Burns’ Clubhouse.
There are still areas for Hovland cleaning. He pointed out a few misconceptions in his second round: or when he pointed to the left and still hit the block on the 8th, or he was a long range after the wheel, three birds, three birds, three worship and double.
“I was in a really nice mental state,” he said. “A few times, if that happened on another tournament, I could have lost something a little. But I felt like I kept things well.”
That equal can be traced to his ball. It is easier to submit casual Bogeey when he knows he is capable of coming back. When his swing was a mess, he put even more pressure on the rest of his game to be neat, if not perfect.
Hovland runs a field in acquired strokes: a tee in green through two rounds, a loan for his strong driving and precise approach. He struck another majority of the green player, always key statistics during the brussy oakmont open.
“I’m great satisfied where we go,” he said. “We are still not right there, the day and isolated. I still see a few (bad) drives … but happens less and less frequently.”
So, there is also a quantity of negative self-talk. What can only mean one: the break-up approaches.
