Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery and hit Moscow in a wave of at least 100 drone strikes, one of the largest such operations during the war.

Video footage verified by the BBC shows a fireball over the refinery and pumping station in the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, which Ukrainian officials said was the target.

Russia said it shot down 121 drones targeting 13 regions, including Ryazan and Moscow, but reported no damage.

Elsewhere, Ukrainian authorities say three people have been killed and one injured after a Russian drone struck an apartment building in the Kiev region.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s counter-disinformation center, said in Telegram that an oil refinery in Ryazan was hit, as well as the Kremniy plant in Bryansk. Kyiv says the facility produces components for missiles and other weapons.

Bloggers on the Telegram social network posted images and videos of the fires that broke out in Ryazan. Images verified by the BBC to be authentic show people fleeing the site in cars as the fire engulfs them.

The Russian state news agency RIA quoted a statement from the Kremniy plant in Bryansk, which said that work had been suspended after an attack by six drones. Regional governor Pavel Malkov said emergency services were responding.

The Kremlin acknowledged the attacks, but did not mention any damage or casualties.

It claimed to have destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones, including six in the Moscow region, 20 in the Ryazan region and others on the Bryansk border.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the city’s air defense intercepted Ukrainian drone attacks in four locations.

He said air defenses in Kolomna and south-east of the capital Ramenskoye had also repelled drones, without specifying how many. He said there was no damage.

Russian news agencies quoted the federal aviation agency Rosaviatsiya as saying that two Moscow airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo, have resumed flights after temporarily suspending operations. Six flights were diverted to other airports.

In the city of Kursk, Mayor Igor Kutsak said overnight attacks damaged power lines and cut power to a district.

In Ukraine, officials said its air defenses destroyed 25 of the 58 drones fired by Russia overnight.

The Interior Ministry said debris from one of the drones killed two men and a woman in Hlevakha, Kyiv region, and injured another person.
