Two have died in a knife attack at a school in Slovakia

Two people have been killed and one injured after a student carried out a knife attack at a school in eastern Slovakia.

The local police initially said that the suspect – an 18-year-old gymnasium student – was on the run and asked people not to approach him.

However, he was apprehended a short time later. “We assure the public that all the necessary measures are being taken to make you feel safe,” said the police.

They added that the teenager’s victims were two classmates and a teacher.

Slovak media reported that the attack took place in Spisska Stara Ves, a town of 2,000 near the Polish border, at around 1pm local time (1200 GMT).

Several emergency medical teams were responding to the scene, broadcaster TA3 said.
