How a 3-month stint implementing the drug war forever stained a policeman’s record

Josue Ahuday used to be a policeman with the Manila Police District’s Jose Abad Santos Station. For three months, he was part of the squad that implemented Oplan Tokhang – the knock-and-plead modus of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.

That short stint as a drug war cop would haunt Ahuday even as he tried to start a new life on the other side of the world. Canada, it turns out, kept tabs on the Philippines’ human rights situation, and it doesn’t grant residency to those with an unsavory record.
