Luke Clanton felt completely normal on Thursday as he prepared for his first competitive circle as a member of the PGA tour.
He grabbed a bagel and coffee from the Horton team.
He looked good as he worked through the bag ranging.
He was calm while in 10. The hole immediately knocked down Rory McIlroy.
And then … he took the club back.
“I couldn’t feel that,” he said. “So there must have been a new experience.”
One of the tours of Ballyhooed’s supplements debuted on Thursday at the Open RBC Canadian Open, where Clanton fought a little with his driver, but he managed to remove even steamed rounds 70 to start his screening career.
“It was very fun,” he said. “I hit him well and I put it well. Just a few times a teenager, but there was good there.”
The tour pushed Clanton in a prominent group to start his professional career, with Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg. Aberg received the best grouping with 68, while Clanton ISegd McIlroy.
“It’s great to throw up immediately into a fire,” he said.
Clanton said he didn’t sleep much in anticipation of the star group – not so much of the nerves, but excitement. He called McIlroy “Tiger Woods of my life,” since he grew up watching him play.
“The first shooter Tee,” he said, “I never had anything like that. It was so cool to meet him and play with him, and two great balls. It was really cool.”
The trio will start at 12:55 ET on Friday.
