This $13 sharpener can restore dull knives

“First, let me say that I am a complete novice at sharpening and had never sharpened anything in my life before purchasing this sharpener. I originally purchased this sharpener just to sharpen old kitchen shears that I loved very much, which were so dull from frequent use that they no longer Able to cut anything anymore I had my doubts that it would work for me or be very easy to use due to my inexperience and not having a clue how to do it I have to say, I was quite surprised at how well it worked and how easy it was even for me to use. (…) After just a minute or two of trying out the sharpener, I was able to cut with the scissors again like I hadn’t in years. Not to mention, it was so easy to sharpen that I was able to do it after quickly reading the instructions once, too. I was so impressed that I decided to try it on cheap scissors from the dollar store that would only cut paper and not very well at that. And again, to my surprise, in a minute or two of sharpening, I had them cutting through the fabric when they couldn’t before. —Rhonda M (This review has been edited for length. “When this sharpener came, I picked up the box, and it was so light that I thought I had been sent an empty box. But no, there it was. Very small, light, easy to store, and works great. The suction cup is simple and effective. I mostly use a ceramic blade and just run the knife a few times and it comes out nice and sharp. —Timo H

I kept one on my desk for a year(s) to keep my letter opener and scissors sharp. I’m 89 and have had two strikes, so I only have one working hand. Vacuums to my desk. After a few days of chopping open letters, it got a little boring. A few strokes on the ceramic V, and we’re back to cutting. I always take one with me when visiting friends as a gift. A few weeks ago, the computer guy saw it on my desk. His wife was pestering him to help her in the kitchen by keeping the knives sharp, so I gave him the extra knives on my desk. The next time he came, he was very happy. His wife loved using it. —Robert Carabin

This sharpener has been around for about a year. It still works great! Excellent for scissors as well as knives. The suction cup on the countertop works great and is easy to clean. I like that the unit collects the metal pieces in the base of the cup. Just press it into the trash and it will be clean. There are little metal filings everywhere. I don’t know how it will hold up to heavy use, but I highly recommend this sharpener for casual use in the kitchen! —Core101

amazing! Our knives were as dull as a butter knife. I followed the instructions and sharpened all my carving knives and steak knives… holy smokes! The knives are now extremely sharp! I definitely recommend this sharpener. :-).” —Marty B

I have an old butcher knife that was so dull you could see the edge. After about half an hour of using the old traditional whetstone, I gave up. I ordered the sharpener, and within 48 hours, it was installed on my counter and ready to use. Within 4 minutes, I was able to cut a newspaper with the blade. I was completely amazed. I wish I had one of these sharpeners years ago when I was a meat cutter. It’s amazing. For the price, you can’t beat it.” —pee
