The NFL plans to play Vikings-Rams in Los Angeles, but the wildfires could force Arizona to the game

The NFL is bracing for the possibility of having to move Monday night’s Vikings-Rams playoff game from Los Angeles to Arizona because of wildfires raging across Southern California.

“The NFL’s priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of first responders. Our hearts go out to Los Angeles and everyone affected by the fires,” the league said in a statement. “We continue to prepare for Monday night’s Vikings-Rams game as scheduled at SoFi Stadium. As with all games, contingency plans are in place in case a change of location is necessary. In this case, the game would be played on Monday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ contact with public officials, both of the clubs and the NFLPA.”

Since it’s a Monday night game, the Vikings-Rams winner will already be the team playing on the shortest remaining stretch of any team in the divisional round, so postponing the game wouldn’t be fair from a competitive standpoint. The league has to play a game on Monday.

Five deaths were confirmed and more than 1,000 buildings were destroyed in the fires.
