The incident ends Connor Zilisch’s eventful Nascar Cup debut at Cota

Eighteen -year -old Connor Zilisch’s cup debut was eventful, but ended before the checkered flag flew at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday.

Zilisch ended last in the 37 car field after beating the Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez in the spinning car.

“I couldn’t see anything,” Zilisch sent out his team after contact. “All I’ve seen was smoke.”

The crew chief Darian Grubb told Zilisch on the radio of the team: ‘You did incredible friend. You did nothing wrong today. You have done an incredible job to drive there. “

Zilisch’s debut comes a day after winning the Xfinity race on Cota – his second career series.

He started Sunday’s Cup Race 14th.

Zilisch’s car was hit on the first turn of the first round and his right tires went off and forced him to draw. He briefly kept the fastest round of the race after returning to the track.

Zilisch was 25th on round 27, just after the beginning of the second phase. He worked 14th on round 40 and was a shot later when four cars ahead.

His race ended on lap 50 when Suarez turned 20 in turn. Zilisch tried to avoid him, but couldn’t. The contact ended the race for Zilisch and Suarez.

“I had so much fun to prepare for this event,” Zilisch said after leaving the Infield Care Center. ‘The second phase, which drives from outside the top 30 to 14th, was a lot of fun. I overtook a lot of guys I watched on TV. “

Zilisch is a developmental driver for Trackhouse Racing. The team has not announced what its next cup race will be.
