The Eagles won 22-10 to advance to the divisional round

It was a frustrating week for the Eagles on many fronts, but they still got the result they needed when all was said and done.

Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns in his return from a concussion, and the Packers shot themselves in the foot again during the Eagles’ 22-10 win at home. The win moves the Packers into the divisional round and they will host a game next weekend, though they will have to wait until the final two games of the Wild Card round before they find out their opponent.

Hurts opened the game with six straight completions as the Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but slowed in the second quarter and finished the afternoon 13-of-21 for 131 yards. The biggest finish of the second half came when Hurts flipped the ball to tight end Dallas Goedert in front of a tough third-quarter blitz and Goedert scampered in for a 24-yarder.

The score made it 16-3 Eagles and ended a streak of four straight possessions without punts for the home team. Injuries to wide receiver Romeo Doubs, left guard Elgton Jenkins, center Josh Myers and wide receiver Jayden Reed on top of missing receiver Christian Watson limited the Packers’ ability to put together points, but they pulled within six points thanks to running back Josh Jacobs.

An unnecessary roughing penalty on defensive back Keisean Nixon — who also lost a fumble on the opening kickoff — on the Eagles’ ensuing drive helped set up Jake Elliott’s field goal, and little-used wide receiver Malik Heath couldn’t get down the field. with Jordan Love’s fourth down pass when the Packers got the ball back. Another personal foul by defensive lineman TJ Slaton helped set up another Elliott field goal, and the deficit was too much for a depleted Packers team to overcome.

Penalties — eight for 85 total yards — and three interceptions by Love joined Nixon’s fumble and Brandon McManus’ missed 38-yard field goal as mistakes the short-handed Packers could ill afford. He’ll regret those mistakes a bit, then get to work on putting together a team that can go deeper into the postseason next time around.

The Eagles will work to shake off their own sloppiness starting Sunday as they had just 270 yards while going 2-of-11 on third downs. Offensive struggles have left wide receiver AJ Brown with time to spare catch up on some reading on the bench and the search for Inner Excellence will have to be tougher next time out if the Eagles have any chance of reaching New Orleans in February.
