Like every year, the coaching carousel spins for a few weeks before it becomes a game of musical chairs.
It’s really a two-way contest. In some settings, candidates are the butts and teams are the chairs. Elsewhere, teams try to land a coach before another can.
With Mike Vrabel a given for the Patriots from the start, the first big domino to fall was Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who landed with the Bears. Next up will likely be Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who is the chair in this scenario, with the Jets and Saints (and possibly others) being the chairs.
If/when the Jets hire Glenn, that leaves four spots: Saints, Raiders, Cowboys, Jaguars.
And the game will go on, with candidates looking for teams and teams looking for candidates, and the music will get closer and closer to stopping.
Here are our current semi-wild guesses on each: (1) Mike McCarthy for the Saints; (2) Pete Carroll for the Raiders; (3) Brian Schottenheimer or Kellen Moore for the Cowboys; and (4) your half-wild guess is as good as ours for the Jaguars.
