Carson Hcevar was the fastest in practice and followed by winning his first Career Cup on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I’m excited to lead my first cup race to the green,” the 22-year-old Hocevar told Prime after demanding the pole.
Hocevar led the way with a shot of 191,659 km / h around the 1.5 mile Speedway.
He also said that he was excited to have the number 1 kimnet stall for Sunday’s race (Green Flag planned at 15:43 ET on FS1), in a case probably has a few pit stops. Last year’s race had 16 warnings and saw a few cars that ended at least eight times in the top 10 pit.
This is a point of back-to-back-first time in the cup. Zane Smith won his first career pole on Talladega this weekend.
Points -leader William Byron qualified second Saturday with a round of 191.564 mph.
Austin Cindric, who won last weekend’s Talladega race, starts third after a round of 191.523 mph.
“I feel like I left a wicked shot out there,” Cindric said. “I sent it to Turn 1 and didn’t come to the bottom completely and not maximize my exit. I think I can be satisfied with where we are, but I definitely feel like you want to do it all. We are in a wonderful place for (Sunday) and need a good pit stall, so I feel good about where we will get tomorrow. We will try to get another one. ‘
Kyle Larson qualified fourth on 191.421 mph. Hocvar teammate at Spire Motorsports, Michael McDowell, started fifth after a round of 191.333 mph.
Others didn’t do so well either.
Ryan Blaney starts 24th and marks the third time in the last seven races he qualified 24th or worse.
Joey Logano qualified the 27th, the second time in the last three races he started 27th or worse.
Chase Elliott begins 29th, the third consecutive racing he started 20th or worse.
