Supercross 2025 results: 450 highlights, recap, reaction at San Diego, Eli Tomac wins

Eli Tomac passed teammate Cooper Webb on lap 12 of 24 in Round 2 of the Monster Energy Supercross Series at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, and held onto his lead until the checkered flag waved. With his win, Tomac extended his Supercross winning streak to 11 consecutive seasons to match the record he shared with James Stewart.

Tomac stated that 2025 would be his last full season of SuperMotocross competition but he didn’t want this to be just a farewell tour where he greets his fans and walks low. After his victory earned Chase Sexton the red plate, Tomac is fully involved in the fight for the championship. With 53 wins to his credit, Tomac is second on the all-time 450 Supercross wins list behind Jeremy McGrath’s 72.

But Tomac did not have an easy road to victory. Tomac stumbled on the start and finished lap 1 in seventh. He quickly recovered as he was third on lap 4, passed Ken Roczen for second six laps later and set his sights on Webb.

On his march across the field, Tomac caught a shadow, however. When Tomac passed Jett Lawrence and in Round 2, Supercross fans saw what was largely denied them in 2024. Lawrence followed Tomac in the pack and finally saw what the competitors meant when they described Tomac’s “Beast Mode”. When Tomac passed Webb, Lawrence followed and never let Tomac out of his sight. Lawrence closed the gap in traffic, but couldn’t get enough momentum to make the pass.

For the first time in 2024, Jett Lawrence had the opportunity to race against Eli Tomac at Supercross Round 6 in Glendale.

“I saw those guys coming, and they were gone, just like that,” Webb said from the lower level of the podiumin an expression of surprise and despair. Webb finished fourth at Anaheim 1 after holding off Tomac in that race. With his second consecutive top five finish, Webb is four points behind Tomac in the championship lead.

Roczen also kept his momentum alive with a fourth-place finish. He crossed second under the checkers in the season opener in Anaheim and currently sits third in the standings with a two-point lead over Tomac.

Battling illness, Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top five. He didn’t make much noise in the 24-lap feature, but he turned in one of the hardest performances of the night.

Chase Sexton brought the red plate to San Diego for the fourth time on the Supercross circuit. He has never defended successfully, but he did get into one position in San Diego. Sexton spun the front wheel on lap 1 of the race and dropped to 22nd. He broke the top 15 on lap 7 and the top 10 on lap 10. He passed Stewart for sixth on the final lap before running out of time to find Hunter.

Jorge Prado had an adventurous 3rd round. He fell in his heat and had to move up to the Main via the Last Chance Qualifier. He won that race, but couldn’t overcome his poor gate breaking. Prado moved up to 14th at the end of the race.
