Supercross 2025 Results: 250 West Highlights, Recap, Reaction Anaheim 1, Jo Shimoda wins

Jo Shimoda didn’t have a great gate selection after finishing fourth in his heat, but he surged in the opening lap, took the lead and never relinquished it. Chase Sexton as in the 450 divisionShimoda earned his first career opening win. It took Shimoda several rounds in 2024 to get comfortable with Honda and the HRC team, and this year, A successful tournament needed a strong start. Shimoda gave it.

Julien Beaumer was consistent last year, but didn’t crack the top five in either the 250 West Supercross or Pro Motocross campaigns. Last year, in his first career top five, he stunned the field in the SuperMotocross (SMX) opener at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina. Better yet, he sat on the podium that evening in second place. It didn’t take long for a second top-five finish the following week at Texas Motor Speedway in Round 2 of the SMX playoffs. With a runner-up finish at Anaheim 1, he has three top-five finishes in his last four races.

Jordon Smith gave Factory Triumph his first podium in season two, but the result was tough. Smith passed Garrett Marchbanks for third on lap 4 and was almost immediately in trouble. He clipped a Tuff Blox and drugged his bike several feet taking a low line in a corner until it flipped over. Smith dropped to sixth in the running order but kept his composure and battled through the pack. Smith passed Ryder DiFrancesco on the final lap to secure third.

The 2025 Supercross season began with veterans on the Anaheim 1 podium and the defending champion outside the top 10.

DiFrancesco had a bad start and finished the first lap in eighth place. He made steady progress and was on the podium on lap 8 when Marchbanks crashed out of third place. As with Beaumer, this was a career best for the young rider, whose previous high mark in Supercross was eighth in 2024.

The stories of the 250 West and 450 divisions were similar. In first grade, Jett Lawrence and Eli Tomac crashed early and had to come from the back of the pack. The same thing happened to Haiden Deegan. In Pro Motocross last year, Deegan overcame crashes to move up through the field, but Supercross races are shorter and Deegan could only climb to fifth. The division championships are made up of nine rounds instead of the 17 in the 450 class, but Deegan can overcome that deficit.

Update: Coty Schock was back on the track just five days after surgery.

Deegan made it into the top five on the final lap after outmuscling Coty Schock. Bad blood could boil between these two riders afterwards A similar move in 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama sent Schock to the ground and almost ended his season with a broken collarbone.

Marchbanks was impressive in his Pro Circuit Kawasaki team’s second-choice start. He won the holeshot and competed in the top five before spinning out in the first half of the race. He placed ninth in the last round.
