A month after the season and stage points affect an impact on the season standings.
Joey Logano became the first ruling cup champion who did not achieve a top -10 in the first four races of the following season, but he is ninth in the points -due to the stage points.
But he is not the only driver affected by the stage points. It made a difference at the top of the season and further in the points.
Stage points played a key role in whom last year made the playoffs and could do it again this season.
Logano is in the top 10 in points in the Sunday’s race on Las Vegas Motor Speedway, as he scored 46 stage points this season-three behind William Byron’s 49 points series high.
Logano’s total of the stage point is 40 more than he had at this time last year – the biggest profit since last year in the series.
“You go there and just try to maximize your day,” Logano said. “Go out there and lead rounds, count as many stage points as possible, get the best finish you could possibly do.”
Stage Points also held Daytona 500 winner William Byron Bo -on the standings, although Christopher Bell won three of the first four races.
Byron has 23 more stage points than Bell. This allows Byron to have a 13-point lead on top of the standings before Las Vegas.
Another driver who benefited from the stage points is Ryan Preece. He has 18 stage points this season – he had no one at this point a year ago. Sermon is 24th in the standings. Without the 18 stage points, he would be 32nd in points.
Sermon remained when others won a stage in Circuit of the Americas and was the first place to go to Phoenix this weekend at the option tires and drove to third place by the end of the first phase to score eight points.
“I think stage points are very important,” Preece said. “But also the philosophy that … RFK really sets and it is aggressive.”
Last year, the stage points were critical for Ty Gibbs and Martin Truex Jr., the only drivers who scored the play -offs without a win.
Gibbs finished 12 points ahead of Chris Buescher, the first driver to make the play -offs, but Gibbs had 39 more stage points than Buescher.
Truex finished six points ahead of Buescher last year for the final play -off game and had 93 more stage points than Buescher.
