Spire Motorsports fined the driver Carson Hcevar $ 50,000 and required him to take training after making derogatory remarks about Mexico during a recent living stream.
The team also requires Hocevar to complete cultural sensitivity and prejudice awareness training.
The team said that the $ 50,000 fine will be divided between three Mexican groups. The money goes to:
– Cruz Roja Mexicana (Mexican Red Cross) – which provides humanitarian and medical relief in Mexico.
-Un Kilo de Ayuda- A non-profit organization that fights the malnutrition in childhood and supports the development of early childhood in rural communities.
– Fondo Unido México (United Way Mexico) – Financing of local NGOs that improve education, health and housing in 22 Mexican states.
Spire Motorsports said in a statement: ‘These actions correspond to Spire Motorsports’ core value of respect, which we proudly displayed on every race car, team uniform, tracks and a digital channel. Respect is not a slogan. It is a daily expectation that we “step” in how we speak, compete and serve the communities that welcome our sport.
‘The recent remarks of Carson Hcevar delivered during the living stream did not lead the standard. They did not represent the views of Spire Motorsports, our partners or Nascar. He publicly acknowledged his mistake, and his quick, sincere apology showed that personal accountability was careful.
“Spire Motorsports informed NASCAR of these fines, and Nascar confirmed that our team-imposed discipline was complying with the requirements of the sanction body. We stay together to show the global growth of the NASCAR, which celebrated the passionate Mexican fanbase we experienced first-hand, and to ensure that every member of our organization is host, With lightness.
“We look forward to turning the page by chasing hard, representing our partners and living our values on and off the track.”
Hocevar wrote on social media on Monday:
“Maybe a child who had never been out of the country would ever give an opinion on how anywhere is different from Portage, Michigan. When I answered the question on a stream, I was skeptical about the journey so far and believed everything I read or heard about Mexico city of people who were more than probably never here.
“Now that I’ve left my hotel a few times and chased some most passionate fans here, my opinion has changed.
“I’m embarrassed by my comments, through the race I ran, and I might have to go here anyway to hide for Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.). Count it as another lesson for me in a season that I learned so much. Don’t believe everything you hear without seeing it yourself.
“If someone has to give someone or anywhere the benefit of the doubt, it’s me. I’m sorry Mexico City. Consider me an ally going forward and an example of pulling out and seeing things with my own two eyes. “
