The senators cite adherence to the Supreme Court’s ‘immediately executory’ decision to declare as ‘unconstitutional’ the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President
MANILA, Philippines – Nineteen senators voted for the motion to archive the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, August 6.
They cited their adherence to the Supreme Court’s decision to declare as “unconstitutional” the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte, a ruling that the Court said was “immediately executory.”
Senate President Chiz Escudero delivered the longest remark, clocking about 23 minutes, where he addressed criticism of how the upper chamber had handled the impeachment case, as well as questions about the Supreme Court ruling.
Watch the explanations of the other senators on why they favored the motion of Senator Rodante Marcoleta in the video above.
Senator JV Ejercito was not able to explain his vote on the floor, but later informed the body, through Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, that he asked that this be inserted into the record. – Rappler.com
