Senate follows SC ruling, ‘archives’ Sara Duterte impeachment

19 senators support the motion to archive the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte

MANILA, Philippines – With a vote of 19-4-1, the Senate on Wednesday, August 6, archived the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte, in adherence to the Supreme Court ruling that halted her trial.

Senator Rodante Marcoleta made the motion, which Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto tried to defer until after the Supreme Court’s decision, which is being appealed, becomes final. Sotto, however, only got five votes.
