Second time’s the charm for Laguna governor-elect Sol Aragones

Sol Aragones will lead a capitol without much traditional allies, as the winners of the vice gubernatorial race and the election for provincial board members came from rival parties

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections proclaimed former congresswoman Sol Aragones as the winner of the Laguna gubernatorial race, after she bounced back from a painful 2022 defeat.

The victory gives her three years in office to finally start fulfilling the promises she made on the campaign, particularly those focused on improving Laguna’s health care situation.

She will lead a capitol without much traditional allies, as the winners of the vice gubernatorial race and the election for provincial board members came from rival parties.

“Our differences in color and party are now behind us,” Aragones said.

“As the vice governor, our functions are purely legislative, like checks and balances, so whatever the programs of the governor are, we will support it,” Vice Governor-elect JM Carait said.
