Scottie Scheffler entered the Traveler Championship as a co-owner with a lot of players on his heels, but it was hard to see him as an irresistible favorite of 36 holes.
Then is 37. It happened.
Scheffler opened playing a day in shocking UN-Scheffler-as fashion. He missed the port left Tee at 431 yard par-4, then left access to 119 courtyard shorts, landing in a bunker short than green.
Two nonpectacular shots, but there was a third that sent the hole spiral.
Scheffler cut his bunker and flew green, I left a terrible angle on later uphill chip, who left only short and looked back about 10 steps to the right.
Still in an awkward position, Scheffler couldn’t go up and down, so he was 7 on the results.
Scheffler bounced with two birds and worns in the last six holes, but he returned everything – then some – on 3 eighths. He discovered the water with the team, then missed the 11-legged to save Bogey, Carding 5.
