Santorini is afraid of the tourist summer season as the island of earthquakes

February Santorini marks the unofficial beginning of the Greek tourist season – the first cruise ships arrived and is an Easter holiday approach.

Since waking the island vibrating and thousands of earthquakes, when they finally end, a cruise has already left and there are fears that could be the most important island in the island.

“We have lowered reservations for the last two days, but we hope this will be a short duration,” says Antonis Pagon, President of the Greek hosts.

But even if the tourists do not choose to go somewhere this year, the hotels still face their guests in the face of having enough workers to come to summer.

Santorini – It is one of the most visited islands of Greek. Seasonal staff from other Greeks and foreign places believe.

But how the uncertainties that will affect vibrations have forced some staff to review their chances this summer.

“It’s not the earthquake I’m afraid – Santorini always shakes,” Manos says that he worked as a Barman of the island last five summer.

His work is sharp, inflammation of the crowd during the peap season, but the financial awards have always been worth it. This year the case is not afraid.

“I’m worried that there will be enough tourists. If the season is weak, I may not do more money, or they may not need me for the whole summer. I can’t take that risk.”

Instead, Manos said that he has done a job in Corfu and this year will not return Santorini.

And it is not only the summer that the island needs temporary workers – now is the time to restore construction staff to restore summer hotels.

Because of the lands of the work, due to the safety concerns about thieves, and in terms of hotel owners, they are worrying that the staff will continue to pay somewhere else until the job is re-starting.

“We sent the government a series of proposals on the island of the island and in order to work on the island,” says Mr. Pagoni.

He has added that the government has responded positively, but “whether these measures will be established”.

While the Greek authorities have been enormous, rescue groups respond to the risks placed in Santorini and present the state of emergency in the speedy support industry. This argues that it must continue with investment in the island infrastructure.

“The challenges will not disappear after the earthquake stopped,” Margarita Karamolegukou has four hotels in Santorini.

“Seasonal, the island sees 70,000 employees and 160,000 visitors every day. While the State played rapidly in response to the earthquake, we have long asked for improvements like a new port.”

Strict regulations on private rental properties are also called, which does not meet the same safety standards for the island.

Santorini is about 2.5% of gross gross domestic products (GDP), calculating 5.9 million euros each year (£ 4.9 million).

As long as there have been no cancellation, the hosts and industrial professionals warn them if the situation continues for another month, the impact of the business could be severe.

When visiting the island on Friday, Kyrrisos Mitsotakis confessed to Santorini’s popularity due to the “iconic tourist destination”: “It’s our duty to protect her and ensuring that it is 2025.”

Mrs. Karamolegoum employed 120 employees, recognizes challenges and admits that vibrations are much longer, it will be delayed by opening hotels and businesses. But it remains optimistic about the future of the most important island industry.

“We’ve been in this business in decades, acting at the highest level. I’m sure that there will also be less employees, our services will be exceptions.”
