Ravichandran Ashwin I made a bold statement on Washington Sundar after the player was selected for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Gautam GambhirHe will do everything to play Sundar in the tournament.
Ashwin has hinted that Gautam Gambhir may go to any limit, even if it is biased, to include Sundar in the playing XI for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as he likes the spin a lot. Notably, India dropped Ashwin in favor of Sudar in the recent tour of Australia.

Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Left and right-arm combinations are very important these days because there are no off-spinners in this team. Your left arm spinner is there. It is very important to rotate the strike. I feel Washington Sundar will play at number 8 for sure. There are two things. As far as I know he likes Gautam Gambhir a lot. He rated it, and certainly Gautam Gambhir endorsed it. If Washington 8 enters, your balance will change immediately.
Former India all-rounder Washington Sundar feels that if he makes it to the top five, it will be a real game changer as India can unlock new balance and flexibility. However, the way Gautam Gambhir is supporting Sundar has mentioned that there are chances of him playing in the top five.

Ashwin further explained, “I feel Washington Sundar will have a slightly higher role in the batting order. Playing forward at 4 or 5 and bowling gives you that balance. Think about it. If the balance of the off-spinner is in the top 5, the dynamic changes. He must hit the top 5, then he will open a whole new door for you. It throws up a lot of options.
Notably, Washington Sundar has so far represented India in 14 ODIs, scoring 315 runs at an average of 24.23, including a half-century. In his List A career, Sundar has 983 runs at an average of 21.84 in 56 innings.
