Hilton Head Island, sc – observers will notice that something is different on this week of RBC heritage.
The post-master’s celebration will have a firm field as a sixth event for the season, Harbor Town Golf Links will be played again in their devilish best, and the winner will rank again among the best attackers of the week. What will be different is subtly significantly.
Heritage is the first event on the four-week, six, on the PGA tour that will enable the use of a distance measurement device (DMDS) in current attempts to accelerate playback.
The use of DMD is part of a larger plan to solve the game tempo – which signaled as a problem in the recent fan fan project – with the adjustment of the tour policy.
“There will be an additional tool in your four-week tool, and we are interested in hearing, after that period, how was it? Do you think it is useful? Feeling useful to you?” He said Gary Young, a senior vice president of the rules and competition for tour. “I think that’s important for this to do about it. There is a start and end, and then we will take that time to really withdraw data and look at it.”
Players and Caddies will be allowed to use DMDS, but only for identifying “raw” distances, not a slope or any other information provided by modern DMDS. Breach of that rule will result in a two-stroke penalty.
So the Championship leading to PGA America, it allows the players to use DMDS during the tournament, and Korn Ferry Tour held a similar trial in 2017. years, but officials hope to find out more about how to use DMDS can speed up the game.
“I don’t think there was anything concrete that came out of (the trial for 2017) smart,” said young. “There was no great improvement of round-weather data, but this special working group considered that Poland’s size had a lot to do with these and especially groups.”
Earlier this year, the tour has established “Working Group Game Speed“Which includes Burns, Adam Schenk and Jhonattan Vegas, works with the player’s advisory advice on improving the pace of the game.
“They felt during two ballparts), that would be a fight to stay a little with a group in front of you,” Young said. “Should you start lagging, I can quickly get the reference point and calculate the heating. It can also help groups timed and consuming time.”
The DMDS trial is part of the wider cruise format focusing of the Tourist Commissioner Jay Monahan announced last month at the player championship.
The tour will also start testing a new policy on the Lecom Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour this week, but it has already begun on the PGA Tour Americas. The adjustment will remove what was basically a warning for “bad weather” and will now apply a single penalty for “first offense”.
Most of the players do not provide for the use of DMD to have many impact on the pace of the game and the world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler proposed an obvious approach to a slow presentation.
“We used (DMDS) in the last few years. Will help play a game? Maybe a few minutes. Will it be something important? No,” said Scheffler on Tuesday in the port city. “This tournament, what affects the tempo game is walking golf courses. I think we play for two weeks, so it will go from a five-hour circle to perhaps four hours or less.
“When you see the biggest changes in the pace of the play, everything comes from going from three guys in two guys in pairing. It is easier to circumvent the golf course.”
Players and tubs using DMDS when dealing with shots that are well playing the corridors and finding a reference point to use Roatia as well as to confirm to draw a record and Tee.
“I imagine Tom (Hoge) standing on a float shooting (with DMD) and I will get numbers (traditional) and we will lead as if we always work,” said James Edmondson, Hoge’s Edmondson, Hoge’s Dengmondson. “I’ll use it when we’re out of network, but we’ll still use the fronts and backs and brackets. If you don’t, I think you wouldn’t be too different for guys. Hold on the guys. Hold on the old habits.”
The tour also plans to make data on reproduction available to the public, but officers still develop a list that deals with “average walking time” with some context. For example, if a player average 38 seconds hit the driveway, but that number increases on Friday when the cut is stopped or Sunday when the title is on the line.
Officials expect that the list was developed in the next or two, and this could be available to the public but this season.
