Jason Perkins drops 27 points as the Phoenix Fuel Masters keep the Grand Slam-seeking TNT Tropang 5G winless in the PBA Philippine Cup, while Robert Bolick comes up big in the fourth as the NLEX Road Warriors claim their third straight win at the expense of the Blackwater Bossing
MANILA, Philippines – A win remains elusive for the Grand Slam-seeking TNT Tropang 5G in the PBA Philippine Cup as they fell prey to the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 95-81, at the newly opened Ynares Center in Montalban on Friday, May 2.
The Tropang 5G suffered their third loss in as many games in the season-ending conference as they had no answers for the red-hot Fuel Masters from start to finish.
Jason Perkins was on a mission for the Fuel Masters, exploding for 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Tyler Tio backstopped Perkins with 17 points, Kenneth Tuffin and Kai Ballungay added 11 each, while RJ Jazul contributed 10 for the Fuel Masters, who secured their second win in five matches.
Perkins and Tuffin went to work early for Phoenix, dropping 8 points apiece in the opening period, as the Fuel Masters jumped out to an early 28-14 lead.
Jazul then took over for the Fuel Masters in the second, pouring in 7 of his 10 points as they entered the break with a comfortable 50-32 cushion.
It was all Phoenix from that point on as it extended its lead to its largest at 26 points, 86-60, midway through the fourth.
Phoenix was on target from long distance all-game long, shooting a very efficient 12-of-20 clip from three-point land, with Perkins and Tio knocking down 3 long bombs each.
Calvin Oftana led TNT in scoring for the second game in a row with 20 points, along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
Earlier, Robert Bolick took over down the stretch for the NLEX Road Warriors as they defeated the Blackwater Bossing for their third straight win, 80-72.
Bolick fired 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth frame, including back-to-back triples with only three minutes left to push the Road Warriors’ lead to 8 points, 74-66, after the Bossing got to within a single possession.
JB Bahio continued his solid showing for NLEX this conference as he backstopped Bolick with 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Kevin Alas found his rhythm and chipped in 10 markers after going 1-of-9 from the field in their previous match.
NLEX spoiled the career game of Blackwater guard BJ Andrade, who finished with a team-best 15 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting.
