The PBA will hold games overseas for the first time in six years as it celebrates its 50th season

MANILA, Philippines – PBA fans abroad will get a chance to watch their idols in action.

Commissioner Willie Marcial on Wednesday, June 18, said the league is set to hold games in UAE and Bahrain as part of its celebrations for its 50th season.

The development came after Marcial met with officials of the Coca-Cola Arena and Al Ansari Education Group in the UAE capital of Dubai last week during the Basketball Champions League Asia, where Meralco represented the country.

If things push through, Marcial said one game will be held in Dubai in October, while a possible doubleheader will be staged in Bahrain in December.

There are also talks with the United States embassy to bring the PBA to New York in June next year, Marcial said.

Marcial added the league received proposals for Qatar and Saudi Arabia to host PBA games.

The PBA last held a game overseas six years ago when NLEX completed a come-from-behind 113-111 overtime win over Barangay Ginebra in the 2019 Governors’ Cup at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. – Rappler.com
