Ostapenco defeated Sabalenka for the first time in four meetings for the first time in the 2017 French Open to win his first clay-court title.
He also defeated World No.2 IGA Sutec in the quarterfinals to win his ninth career title.

In the first set, Latvian Sabalenka broke six times six times.
