Oscar De La Hoya calls out Devin Haney for firing his father.

Oscar De La Hoya blasted his manager Bill Haney on this week’s episode of Clapback Thursday, saying he ruined his son Devin Haney’s career by suing Ryan Garcia for battery in last April’s loss in Brooklyn, New York.

Oscar: Fire your dad, Devin!

De La Hoya tells Devin that he needs to take control of his life and “fire” Bill. He thinks the decision ruined a promising career for the former two-division world champion.

Oscar says that the lawsuit and Devin’s decision to sit out a year without work made his loss worse. Hani (31-0, 15 KOs) could have bounced back from that loss if he returned to the ring instead of sitting down and dealing with the loss.

According to De La Hoya, Hani needs to win his May 2 fight against Jose Ramirez in order to earn a rematch with Ryan in October.

If that’s true, the pressure will be on Devin when he faces former WBC and WBO 140-lb champion Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in Ryan Garcia vs. ‘Rolly’ Romero in Times Square in New York City.

“I feel sorry for Devin Honey because you never hear him talk because he does whatever his dad says,” Oscar De La Hoya said this week. Clapback Thursday. “Obviously, Devin had a bad loss this year, but that shouldn’t have been the end of his career. It could have been easily fixed.

“If it wasn’t for his father and manager Bill who single-handedly made it more toxic than Chernobyl. I have never seen a bigger phone for a boxing career in my life. Devin had to do after losing to Ryan Garcia last April: ‘He beat me. I couldn’t block the left hook’ and went back to the gym.

“He thought it would be a better idea to sue Devin Ryan for battery and emotional distress, to sue Golden Boy, to sue the New York Athletic Commission, to get Devin’s loss expunged, to fight a civilian in Orange Country, instead of focusing on the 2024 rematch and teaching his kid to block his left hook.” To take the rest of the year and as many enemies as possible To create, they cemented their legacy as one of the biggest tearjerkers in boxing history.

“Just last week Bill and Devin were in London and they asked Turki for a day’s pay because they had no other choice. Devin’s only value in this sport is fighting Ryan Garcia again. So, Bill being the crook he is, takes the boy back to the beat fighter so he has to sue him for battery. I couldn’t do it guys.

“The rematch (Garcia-Haney) is in October but with one condition. The Haney’s need to stop their bull s**** lawsuit against Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy. Of course, the Hanis had no issues and were willing to leave. I’ve never heard of a fighter suing another fighter for battery, and I’m sure we won’t see it again unless Devin sues his next opponent.

Online rematch: Haney vs Ramirez

“Anyway, taking the rematch is a very risky move because if Devin loses to Ryan again, we can all say goodbye to the Honeys. Devin will have to get past a strong and hungry Jose Ramirez in May to get to that fight. Be careful, Jose. If he hits you hard, he might charge you next.”

“Devin Honey, from one fighter to another, you need to take control of your life and career and fire your father. Everyone in the box stood and watched what happened this year, the year you were supposed to shine. You are now a punch line. Everyone sees that he is the problem. He[Bill]didn’t stop his fight with Ryan Garcia when your jaw was broken and you were on the canvas.

“I hope you come to your senses and decide to save yourself and break up with your current manager before it’s too late. Unfortunately, it may already be,” De La Hoya said.
