Nickelodeon to release new ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ animated series

The new series will feature a young earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar, but the ‘title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior’

MANILA, Philippines — Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, can save the world — and there’s a new one coming soon.

Nickelodeon revealed the continuation of the mythology and story of Avatar, announcing a new series Avatar: Seven Havens on Thursday, February 20. The new series will consist of 26 episodes, comprising of Book 1 and Book 2, and will be led by Avatar series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

The new series will feature a young earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar, but the “title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior.” The new character will succeed airbender Aang, featured in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and waterbender Korra in The Legend of Korra.

“Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse,” according to Nickelodeon’s social media post.

The new series comes as Avatar: The Last Airbender marks its 20th anniversary on Friday, February 21. A release date and casting for Seven Havens have yet to be announced.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a press release.

The Avatar series follows characters from different worlds who discover their identity and embark on a mission to master Water, Earth, Fire, and Air elements to restore balance to the world. They also have the power to be the bridge between the human and spirit worlds. – Rappler.com
