Erin, Wis. – Nelly Korda says she learned the value of patience during the season in which titles did not come as easily as for her year before.
This feature is especially important this week on the American Women’s Open, a tournament that was not kind to the most popular player in the world. The Kord never finished greater than the tie for the eighth and missed the incision three of the last five years.
That history provides a lot of incentives for the Kord as it goes to American women’s open starting from Thursday to Erin Hills. Looking for your first season title.
“I mean, it’s the biggest golf test,” Korda said. “Definitely tested me a lot. I love it. At the end of the day, so we do what we do, we play these golf courses in these conditions to test our games in every aspect.”
Korda, 26, understands that challenge too well.
Last year she entered the American woman open that she won six of her last seven events, then fell from hard. She Posted 10 on her third hole The tournament, the cards are 80 in the opening and missed the cut in Lancaster (PA.) Country Club.
Her average score 68.88 leads all LPGA competitors, but her lack of titles this year is significant after the spectacular season 2024 in which she won seven times at 4 p.m. She won five straight events at a time last year, tying the record now sharing with Nancy Lopez and Annik Sorenstam.
“It was a very interesting year for me,” Korda said. “I definitely had a little good and a little bad. The type of mixture in the type of every event I played. I’d say it’s just patience what I learned and really locked and actually concluded.”
The cordan record reflects the balance in women’s golf this year, because LPGA tour did not have any player winning more titles through their first 12 events of the season. The Kord will look for a breakthrough on Erin Hills this week, 6,829 courtyards, par-72, are less than 40 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
The relative deficiency of the tree Erin Hills can make the course especially difficult on windy days.
“Here the weather plays a fairly big role, especially with some coverage, there are no trees to block it. It is a kind of very large open field,” Kord said. “When you’re here, they’re really going to play with your golf ball. It’s just kind of seeing what day he has in the store and he has a game plan for that.”
