Nascar explains why it will make no changes to the play -offs for 2025

Concord, NC – NASCAR will not change the play -off system for this season, but will create a group to investigate how the sports champions are determined.

John Probst, senior executive vice president of the NASCAR and main racing, confirmed in a meeting with reporters and broadcasters on Monday that the play -offs will remain the same, despite some feedback from fans who are asked for change.

Last year’s Cup Championship race did not include the winning manager of the season and the top three drivers in the round led to the final of the season. As a result, some questioned the dignity of those in the cup title race.

Here is a look at the early forecast for the February 1-Weekend event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Nascar president Steve Phelps said last November that all four title contenders – Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick and William Byron – earned to be a championship in Phoenix.

Nascar chief operating officer Steve O’Donnell said in the same media session in Phoenix in November that the play -offs remain, but “we will absolutely look at what form the play -offs take in the off -season.”

Probst cited that Reddick went from third to the first on the last round on Homestead to earn a place in the championship race, and Blaney went from 10th place on the last restart to Martinsville to win a place in the title race as Examples of what the current format creates.

“The play -offs were meant to create kind of those moments, which I think did like them,” Probst said in the Nascar R&D Center on Monday.

“On the other hand, there is the feedback of the fan, which we had to hear on this particular driver loud and clear, or that the specific driver won so much race, so he must have been automatically and all that.

‘You look at the buckets of different opinions, it seemed like everyone fell into one of three categories. You were either ‘I like the play -offs. I like what they do. They create storylines. ‘

“There was” I hate the playoffs. I don’t want them. Let them go away. I want to go back to the way it always was. ‘

“And then there was like this middle bucket like, ‘I like the play -offs. I think they need to change, but I don’t really know exactly what I want to change or try to correct. ‘

A look at some of the most important elements to watch this season in the Nascar Cup series.

Probst also cited the opinion of the Broadcast Partners, which will include Prime Video, TNT and the CW network this season with Fox and NBC.

“Could we have adapted a little thing here (with the play -offs)?” Said. “Maybe, but I don’t think we want to get the habit of making small small adjustments to the playoffs every season.

“Where we landed was no changes to the play -offs for 2025. Throughout this year we get a working group with a few media people, (manufacturers), Goodyear and managers. “
