Morel Cuban School Topple Benavidez

Three-time former cruiserweight champion Mariris Bredis predicts that David Morel’s childhood Cuban-school boxer will win against David Benavidez on February 1st.

Benavidez He can’t intimidate Morel. As he did when he fought smaller, weaker and bigger fighters at 168. Morell is the same size, young, strong and his fighters won’t be bullied the way Benavidez was beaten at super middleweight.

Fans saw ‘Mexican Monster’ Benavidez as a heavyweight bully all those years, playing the system and teaming up with smaller fighters beneath his massive light heavyweight/cruiserweight frame.

Benavidez didn’t look like the same fighter in his last fight on June 15 when he moved up to 175 against Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Can Morel shock the world?

Bredis believes that “everyone” will beat WBC interim light heavyweight champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) over Morel (11-0, 9 KOs), but the Cuban background for ‘The Mexican Monster’ headlines at T-Mobile Arena.

Mairis Morell said he can fight from the outside, power throw and fight from the inside. During his years in Cuba on the national team, he has seen all styles of fighting. So what Benavidez brings to the table in this fight will be nothing new to him.

Morel has fought better fighters than Benavidez in Cuba, going up against the two-time Olympic gold medalist. Julio Cesar La Cruz. That fighter will be a nightmare for Benavidez with his size, power and technical ability.

Politics in the ring?

One question raised for the Benavidez-Morel fight is the referee. Bredis pointed out that Benavidez is from the United States and Morel is from Cuba. He mentions politics. If the fight goes to the cards, will Benavidez, who has a huge fan following in the United States, get a decision over Benavidez, the most popular fighter who seems lost?

Benavidez was awarded a 12-round wide decision in a razor-sharp contest in his last fight against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Las Vegas last June. Gvozdyk appeared to win five to six rounds of that fight, but the Nevada judges scored it 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109 for Benavidez in this lopsided set of scores.

I watched the fight and it was 114-114. Benavidez lost one of the first six rounds, and in the final five rounds Gvozdyk pounded hard on the exhausted ‘Mexican Monster’. So if the Benavidez-Morel fight goes to the scorecards, will Morel get the same treatment? Will Benavidez need a knockout to win with his massive fans in Nevada and the crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas?

Cuban school

“Everybody thinks Benavidez will win by TKO, but I think Morel is from Cuba and Cubans are very strong boxers. It’s a national sport for boxing,” Mairis Bredis said. YouTube Channel, analyzing the fight between David Benavidez and David Morel on February 1st.

“Morel is a very smart guy, he’s young, and he can fight from a distance or as a puncher. This is two punches that will meet in the ring. My prediction, I think Morel. They will show Benavidez something new. His speed, hard punches and some interesting Cuban techniques.

“My prediction is that Morel will win unanimously.” Benavidez fought tougher opponents than Morel. I mean, Morel didn’t fight very strong people. I hope Morel wins unanimously.

There are some small politics in America. Why, because he (Benavidez) is from the USA, and his fans are from the USA. Morel is Cuban, and boxing has been his thing since childhood.

Morel has been fighting better fighters than Benavidez in Cuba since he was a kid. He also had a tougher life than Benavidez. His upbringing, along with his superior speed, power, athletic ability and technical skills, give him a huge advantage in this fight.

“The winner (of Benavidez and Morel) will fight Beterbiev or Bivol. Benavidez-Morel will be a very tough fight, and the next step is a very tough fight against Beterbiev or Bivol,” said Bredis.
