Mike Evans admitted before his first meeting with Marshon Lattimore earlier this season that he didn’t do a good job of controlling his emotions against his opponent.
The Bucs receiver has now let the cornerback get under his skin. Evans was ejected once and suspended twice in one game for his actions against Lattimore, while missing out on more than $100,000 in fines.
Lattimore warned Evans this week that Evans would know he was there.
Evans admits he has to be “disciplined.”
“I just did I have to be at my bestEvans said, via Rick Stroud of Tampa Bay Times. “I have to do my best, because he’s a really good player. Obviously we’ve had a lot of really good duels. If he plays I’m looking forward to the game.”
Evans averaged 2.6 catches for 43.6 yards in 13 head-to-head games against Lattimore, including two catches for 34 yards in October when the Bucs defeated the Saints 51-27. The Saints traded Lattimore to the Commanders shortly after, and Lattimore has played just two games with Washington since then but will return to play on Sunday Night Football.
“They’re both great players, and they both love to compete,” Bucs coach Todd Bowles said of Lattimore and Evans. “Mike is a professional, and he understands what’s at stake. He understands the game. There’s nothing that really needs to be said about that.”
