The IBF has ordered #5 Subriel Matias and #6 Gabriel Valenzuela to begin negotiations for a light welterweight title eliminator to challenge new 140-pound champion Richardson Hitchcock for the belt.
Mathias, 32, has a good chance of getting himself into a world title fight to regain the IBF belt he lost a year ago with a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Liam Parro on June 15.
It’s a tall order for Valenzuela to beat Matias because he’s a very good puncher, and will put constant pressure on him. Gabriel follows Parron’s pattern with movement, excellent cleaning, pushing and other difficult tactics.
Elvis Rodriguez chose not to fight Matias (21-2, 21 KOs). Otherwise, he would face the former IBF light welterweight champion in a title fight. Next up is his expected loss to Yomar Alamo.
It’s Jake Donovan. Reporting The IBF is ordering the Matias-Valenzula fight.
Gabriel Valenzuela (30-3-1, 17 KOs) has won his last five fights since losing to Montana Love on May 7, 2022 in Las Vegas by a tight 12 round unanimous decision. Luis Hernandez Ramos.
