March NASCAR CUP -RANGLY: Christopher Bell climbs to the peak

Here is a look at who was the best in March, and some important moments in a month with five Nascar cup races.

March power ranking

1. Christopher Bell (Last month: 5th)

He was the only driver to win several races in March. Bell won at Circuit of the Americas at the beginning of the month and followed the following week with a win at Phoenix.

Bell also placed second on Martinsville, which means he finished first or second on tracks that will offer the last two races of the season – Martinsville and Phoenix.

He was the only driver to have an average running position better than seventh in three of the five races.

2.. William Byron (3)

Did not win in March, but scored the most points (184) and finished second in the stage points with 45 (Ryan Blaney had 50 stage points in March).

Byron’s best finish of the month was second on Cota. He also had a top five-final in Las Vegas and finished fourth. Byron added a sixth place to Phoenix.

Byron had an average position of better than eighth in four on the five races of the month.

3.. Kyle Larson (no)

He was second in points with 182 and in the stage points with 42 for the month.

Larson won on Homestead-Miami Speedway, one of the three top five finals he had in March. He was third in Phoenix and fifth in Martinsville. Larson scored points in March.

4. Chase Elliott (NR)

Elliott had four top 10 finishes to match his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman. Elliott’s 171 points tied Christopher Bell for the third most in March.

Elliott’s best finish of March was fourth, which he achieved from Cota and Martinsville. He also placed 10th place on Phoenix and Las Vegas.

5. Denny Hamlin (NR)

Hamlin’s Martinsville victory moved into the top five for March. He finished with three top five finals this month, and he placed second on Phoenix and fifth place on Homestead to go with his Martinsville victory.

Just as his teammate of Joe Gibbs Racing, Christopher Bell, Hamlin had a first or second place on Martinsville and Phoenix, has the tracks that will offer the last two cup races of the season.

10 years after his last win in Martinsville, Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag on Sunday.

Those just miss the top five

Alex Bowman – He had four top 10s in March, including a runner-up at Homestead and finished fifth in points this month.

The runner -up of Alex Bowman on Homestead moves him to third place in the points.

Bubba Wallace – Finished the month with the back-to-back-third place and recorded them on Homestead and Martinsville. He scored 41 stage points in March, and fourth place for the month.

This is how a sleepless night led to the search for the new crew head of Bubba Wallace.

Ryan Preece – Recorded three consecutive top 10 finishes until the end of March. He was third on Las Vegas, ninth on Homestead and seventh place in Martinsville.

A preview of the play -offs?

Las Vegas and Martinsville are in the third round of the playoffs and Phoenix offers the cup title race. This month gave an indication of what could happen in the playoffs later in the year.

Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott were the only drivers who ended in the top -10 in March. Larson was third in Phoenix, ninth in Las Vegas and fifth in Martinsville. Elliott was 10th in Phoenix and Las Vegas and fourth at Martinsville.

Christopher Bell won Phoenix and finished second in Martinsville. Denny Hamlin won Martinsville and finished second in Phoenix.

There is still a lot of time until those play -offs, but the early sign is that Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing will be one of the favorites. This is a step forward for JGR, which could not win one of the last 18 races of the season. JGR has already won four of the first seven this year, led by Bell’s three wins.

While Denny Hamlin celebrated his first win of the season, others don’t have as much to rejoice in Martinsville.

An up-and-down month

The team Penske drivers, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and Austin Cindric, led 23.1% of the rounds in March, but they had no victories, no top five finishes and two top 10 finishes in those five races.

Joey Logano was the first ruling cup champion to score a top 10 final through the first six races of the season. He cut the drought with an eighth place in Martinsville.

The team’s only other top 10 in March was sixth place by Cindric in Las Vegas.

Blaney was unable to complete three consecutive race. He suffered inflated engines on Phoenix and Homestead. He crashed in Las Vegas.

Stat of the month

It’s been 3,654 days since Denny Hamlin’s last win in Martinsville Speedway before winning Sunday’s race.

Hamlin last won there in March 2015, a race that was the cup debut for Chase Elliott.

The top-five Afrikaans that day was: Hamlin (first), Brad Keselowski (second), Joey Logano (third), Matt Kenneth (fourth) and David Ragan (fifth).

Quote of the month

‘We have high expectations and great hope and goals for this year. Honestly, the last few years with Joe Gibbs who chased in this number 20 car, I have not reached the standards I have for myself. Our goal of going in 2025 is to do this, or my goal is to do it for myself. I know, Adam Stev, we didn’t. Nascar Cup series season.

If the series race at Talladega, it will compete in the final Four tracks in the playoffs – Las Vegas, Talladega, Martinsville and Phoenix.
