Lions owner Sheila Hamp: ‘It wasn’t the ending we wanted or expected’

Expectations have changed in Detroit.

Although the Lions had one of their best seasons in franchise history, going 15-2 and losing in the divisional playoff round was disappointing, compared to where the Lions thought they were headed this season. Lions owner Sheila Hamp acknowledged as much in her end-of-season letter to season ticket holders.

“This is not the letter I was hoping to write to you this year,” Hamp wrote via email. Detroit Free Press. “It’s not the ending we wanted or expected. The fact of the matter is: we had a great year, a record season but… We have not reached our ultimate goal“.

Hamp said the Lions remain committed to reaching their first Super Bowl.

“I know this weekend was tough, and it will be difficult to watch the next few weeks as other teams go down the path we envisioned,” Hamp wrote. “But please know that we have never been more excited. I know that the future will look different and that the team that brought us so much success this year will never come together again. The pieces will change, but we are confident about where we are headed and more aligned than Anyhow as to how to get there.
