Lachlan Shaw takes jaw-dropping diving catch in BBL 2024-25


Australia’s young wicketkeeper Lachlan Shaw did a spectacular dive in front during the 35th match of the Big Bash League between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers. But he took this catch when he was fielding in the deep, not as a wicket-keeper.

At the end of Adelaide’s innings, the left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshus Bowled a full delivery on the off stump to the batsman Alex Ross. It was a length delivery that Ross tried to hit hard towards the short boundary over midwicket.

The ball went up in the air and kept spinning around. Lachlan Shaw, who was fielding at deep square, ran in from the boundary and made a brilliant dive at the end to catch the ball cleanly with both hands.

There was something amazing about Lachlan Shaw and he couldn’t believe he was starting to catch on. He moved the ball in the air but kept his eyes on the ball to take one of the best plays of the season.

Ross gave the Sixers a huge wicket at the end of the game when he was dismissed with a brilliant 48 off 37 balls. It was Shaw’s first time of the day and it turned out fantastic.

Earlier, Sydney Sixers secured their place in the finals by finishing first. Mathew Madam Short was dismissed cheaply which gave him a big hit for the Sydney six. The strikers were reduced to 35-3 as the wicketkeeper Alex Carey 18 off 13 balls in quickfire.

But England’s Test vice-captain Ollie Bishop battled well and produced a brilliant performance under pressure. He found a great partner in Alex Ross and both of them took their team to a comfortable position.

Pope was dismissed for 57 off 39 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. All around Jamie Overton He ended up scoring 32 off 14 balls with 3 fours and 16 to take his team to 182-5. Jack Edwards and Todd Murphy picked up two wickets each for the Sixers.

In reply, Sydney Sixers lost Josh Phillip early but Jack Edwards and Steve Smith steadied the ship with a vital partnership. Edwards didn’t contribute much but Smith looked miserable with the bat.

The veteran scored 52 off 31 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes. The innings looked to get off track at 92-5 but Lachlan Shaw came to the rescue again. The youngster played a brilliant shot to push Sixes closer to victory.

Shaw was dismissed but Ben Dwarshus played lower down the order. Hayden Kerr stayed till the end with just one ball to take the Sixers to a narrow win. Lloyd Pope and Jamie Overton picked up two wickets each for the Strikers but it was not enough in the end.
