Bristol, tenn. – A week after Kyle Larson spent most of the race in the Darlington garage, he spent most of the race in the lead on Bristol on his way to his second win of the season.
Both race can be critical in Larson’s bid for a second cup title and Hendrick Motorsports’ search for his first cup championship in four seasons -a drought for the most successful organization of Nascar.
A week ago, Larson’s error sent his number 5 car in the wall less five laps in the race. He spent more than 160 laps in the garage while his team did repairs. Larson only won one position – from 38 to 37th – but there was more that crew head Cliff Daniels and the team came from the experience.
“There are so many valuable things we just took away from a process point of view and even worked with Nascar,” Daniels said. “Something I will emphasize is how eager they were on us to rebuild the car with all the right safety aspects still in the car. Daggone it, if we didn’t hit the wall again in the same place, and the car was safe, and all the things were done.
“It was twofold, and a team practice to get a well composed car, back on track that we could work on performance.”
On Sunday at Bristol, Larson led 411 off 500 rounds to achieve his second consecutive victory on this high-bank half military.
‘… To make a profound run -up in the play -off game, you need to know how to push the edge of your team to do the execution items to qualify, to hold it from before, to keep it, kyle who runs the jobs as the leader, starts again, communication, timing,’ said Daniels. “Many of these things are just important components.”
But there is still work for Larson’s team – and that of his teammates at Hendrick Motorsports – to give the organization his first title since Larson won the 2021 crown. Only once since 1995 Hendrick Motorsports went four consecutive years without winning the award.
“We have high standards,” said Jeff Gordon, chairman of Hendrick Motorsports. “So it was nice. And I think we were happy (with performances this year). But no, we are definitely not satisfied … I think we are still behind when it comes to the 10 (play -offs) and the championship.
“There are some good cuts there for us, but there are a few tracks coming, and we want to come to Phoenix. I think Phoenix is now, we are not the team to beat, and we have a long way to go, and I hope we can find it.
‘We have the best people in the business to do so. Race victories like today are rewarding in many ways and will motivate us, but it’s not Phoenix, and I think we know it. “
Daniels also admits what lies ahead for him and his team.
“We still believe there is more achievement to go to the gateway and loudons and martinsvilles, and especially Phoenix,” he said. “That we were a little behind some of the other guys.
“There is a job before us that we should find the little pieces of achievement, but to surely the dichotomy of such a bad Sunday a week ago and the wonderful Sunday we had today is important to our team. We will continue to grow and build on it, and still a long season ahead. ‘
Sunday was a long race for Larson’s participants.
“I think the (no.) 5 was the best,” says Denny Hamlin, who finished second as Larson. ‘Car and driver were the best today. That was all I had to run and stay close to them. … I think it was a thing where he qualified well, set the tone early with the pace and never looked back … they were on their game. If they hit it, they are hard to beat. ‘
