The causes were different than in years past, but the effect was the same for Quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills.
The Chiefs’ second painful playoff loss ended a second season short of a super bowl for the AFC East club. An incompletion on fourth down by Allen and a dropped pass on another fourth down accounted for the biggest in the final tally, but there were other moments on the night when the Bills could have had concerns in their favor.
In his postgame press conference, Allen said the team made a number of plays, but “we just had to make another one and get one more point off them and we weren’t going to be able to do that tonight.” It was a theme he returned to more than once during the panel discussion at the podium.
“It’s not fun. To be the Champs, you have to beat the champs, and we didn’t do that tonight. . . . You can either do it or you can’t,” Allen said. “And we didn’t.”
The accounts of the nineties showed that a continued bite at Apple does not guarantee that you will finally win the title. Allen learned that lesson, and the question remains whether he and the rest of the team can figure out how to finally break through.
