Jets, Raiders seek interview with Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo

Is this the cycle where Steve Spagnuolo gets the head coaching job?

There are at least two teams that would like to talk to Kansas City’s storied defensive coordinator.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Jets have placed an interview request for Spagnuolo and according to Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com, the Raiders have also placed an interview request for their AFC West rival DC.

Spagnuolo, 65, has been with the Chiefs since 2019, helping the team to three Super Bowl victories in that span. He previously coached the Giants in two separate stints as defensive coordinator – winning Super Bowl XLII with New York to end the 2007 season – and also served as interim head coach in 2017.

Spagnuolo was the head coach of the Rams from 2009 to 2011, going 10-38 in those three seasons. But with that long tenure in the rearview mirror, Spagnuolo reportedly more than deserved another shot at being a head coach.
