Alexander Javerev, a Toronto-top-descendant, held a rally on Monday to defeat Australia’s Alexi Popirin 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the National Bank on Monday.

Javerev, a German who is at number 3, advanced to his 75th ATP tour semifinal. He is looking for the title of his 25th tournament and the eighth in the ATP 1000 Masters Tournament.

Javerev got another break in the third set before serving the match at the quarter-finals of the last year’s quarterly.
The 20 -year -old young man was always advanced against Popirin with the third round of the Paris Olympics, losing to the top Paradise Sinar in the final of this year’s Australian Open.
Javerev has two tournaments in Clay this year, and Sinar, No.2 Carlos Alkaraj, No. 5 Jack Dragger and Novak Jokovich are the highest ranked players who are competing in Toronto’s field with some notable star power.
