As per the ECB’s new policy, the board will allow NOCs to participate in foreign leagues except for the white-ball specialist IPL, which is an exception to the English summer county championships.
The policy left Vince with the choice to either quit first-class cricket or give up his PSL contract. The 33-year-old English batsman chose the former after thinking about his future and his family.
In a statement, James Vince thanked Hampshire Cricket but noted that there is still a hunger for them in T20 cricket. He cited his family and their future as the biggest reason for leaving. County Championship.

James Vince’s exit doesn’t mean he’s completely retired from first-class cricket. He may later return to England’s domestic red ball circuit. However, his chances of breaking into the England Test squad are slim.

James Vince was picked up by Karachi Kings on January 13 ahead of the PSL 2025 draft. Vince has played 45 matches in the PSL so far and has scored 1166 runs at an average of 27.76 and a strike rate of 136.69 with four fifties.
He is currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League 2024-25 and has scored 228 runs in six matches at an average of 45.60 and a strike rate of 139.02. He has hit one hundred and fifty so far this season.
