Is Ryan Garcia screwing himself up with Romero?

Ryan Garcia has reportedly selected Rollie Romero as his opponent for May 2 in Times Square, New York. Garcia handpicked Roli (16-2, 13 KOs) as Roli (16-2, 13 KOs) has not been good and was a surprise to fans as he was recently eliminated last year.

Garcia vs Romero will be the main event on the Turki Al-Sheikh card on May 2. Devin Haney will fight Jose Ramirez in the main event. It should be flipped with Hany-Ramirez in the main event and Garcia-Romero as the main event. Ryan is more popular than Devin because of his 12 million Instagram followers, which is why he’s tied for the top spot with Romero.

Boxing fans will give Ryan a pass to use Rollie as a fix at the PPV as his next fight will be against Devin Honey in October. So, put up with Garcia taking the tomato can from Rollie Romero because he’ll be fighting Devin next.

Will Garcia regret it?

Garcia is counting on Rollie to draw interest in the fight with his trash-talking ability outside the ring. That’s the main thing that Romero is good at. He is a limited fighter, but he interacts with fans through interesting interviews.

However, he is very weak in combat and hasn’t looked good in combat in years. He was knocked out by Pitbull Cruz last March and has had poor performances in fights against Ishmael Barro, Manuel James, Gervonta Davis and Jackson Marinez.

Initially there were talks between Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) and Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. However, he chose not to take the fight as he was scheduled to fight Angel Fierron on February 1st. Cruz wanted to wait.

So Ryan went with 29-year-old Romero as his opponent. Pitbull chose not to take the fight against Garcia that ruined things. But even if he chose not to take the match against Kingery, he could have found a better opponent than Rollie.

Ryan’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya wanted Teofimo Lopez as his opponent but went with Rollie instead.
