The Senate’s controversial vote to remand VP Duterte’s impeachment articles raises legal questions; join Rappler’s John Nery and lawyer Paulo Tamase for insights on the unfolding political drama
In a stunning but not unexpected political maneuver, a majority of 18 senators voted to remand the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte back to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 10. The impeachment trial seems to be in limbo.
Was this even legal? What happens to the impeachment case now? Was the remanding a dismissal disguised as a delay?
In this episode, Rappler columnist John Nery seeks answers to these questions. He is joined by lawyer Paulo Tamase, who is also an assistant professor at the UP College of Law. Tamase is a moderator of a forum on emerging issues in impeachment and the author of a comprehensive and extremely timely feature on that forum published in the Philippine Law Journal.
