How to Watch Thursday’s Daytona 500 DUEL -Qualifying Racing

The Duel Qualifying Races set the field Thursday, February 13 for the 67th Daytona 500.

With 38 cars locked in the race by qualifying, two cars-one in every 60-round race will claim the 2.5 mile oval-the last two places in the 40-car field.

There are 36 chartered cars guaranteed places in the field, which let nine teams fight for the last four places. The two fastest cars without a charter include the Daytona 500 field during the qualifying Wednesday 12 February.

Although he will drive a non-careted car for Trackhouse Racing, four-time Indy 500 winner Helio CastroneVes becomes a Daytona 500-starting place by a new Nascar rule that makes one for the time being per race for world-class drivers. If he cannot secure any of the 40 places in the field at the qualifying time or through the qualifying race, CastroneVes will be added as a 41st driver (and not eligible for prize money).
