Denny Hamlin will search his third consecutive Cup Series victory on one of his best tracks on the track and enter Bristol Motor Speedway as the hottest driver in the leading series of Nascar.
The Joe Gibbs Racing Star won a four -win lead on the 0.533 mile oval, including three of the past eight.
A year ago, Hamlin led the last 17 rounds of a race in which tire management was against a premium. There was an lead on the record of 54 in the race on March 17, 2024.
Sunday’s race is unlikely to unfold in a similar way. Last year, the first in the afternoon was entirely on the concrete in four years, and cool temperatures are likely to have less impact on tires.
Hamlin’s primary threat is probably Kyle Larson, who has won two of the past eight races on Bristol (including a dominant victory in September).
An interesting statistical peculiarity for a lane that can typically produce clusters with warning flags: Bristol is in a line of 16 consecutive breeds that end at the scheduled distance. The last overtime race at Bristol was in April 2015.
