How can Canada and the Philippines work together on cyber defense?

Rappler’s Bea Cupin speaks to Canadian Armed Forces Cyber Command chief Major General Dave Yarker about the threats facing the Indo-Pacific and beyond

MANILA, Philippines – In September 2024, the Canadian Armed Forces established its Cyber Command — an indication, among other things, of the “evolving role of cyber operations in modern defense strategy.”

Less than a year after its establishment, Major General Dave Yarker, commander of the Canadian Armed Forces Cyber Command (CAFCYBERCOM), is already keen on growing its network of partners. Yarker is in the Philippines to meet his counterparts in the Armed Forces of the Philippines Cyber Command, which was only established in late 2023.
